The house that is two-roomed built of circular timber, slabs, and stringy-bark, and floored with split slabs. a bark that is big standing at one end is larger than the home it self, veranda included.
Near midnight. Every once in awhile she glances across the floor and wall-plate, and, whenever she hears a sound, she reaches for the stick. The thunderstorm occurs, while the wind, rushing through the cracks into the slab wall, threatens to blow down her candle. She puts it for a part that is sheltered of dresser and fixes up a newspaper to guard it. At each flash of lightning, the cracks amongst the slabs gleam like polished silver. (suite…)
